Bastard Sword
From SwordWiki
The term "Bastard" as it relates to swords is a period term, going back at least as far as 1500, and probably further. Unfortunately, it is not well defined in surviving manuscripts, and thus it can be a subject of debate in a modern context as it applies to a wide range of period swords.
In common parlance, it is usually described as a sword that can be used well with either one hand or two. Depending on how you interpret this, it can apply to a single-handed sword with a larger hilt, or a longsword that is light enough to function adequately with one hand.
