Characteristics
Petersen characterizes this type of sword as having upper and lower gaurds that have strongly curved, even ridged sides. The cross sections are noted as evenly wide, with rounded ends. The pommel is also even, three sided, and narrower than the gaurds. In a couple of examples, it is also divided into three segments (and in one example, Petersen says it was even found divided into seven segments). Petersen goes on to say that "Type A is poor, simple, and does not make a strong impression with it's low gaurds of ordinary length, and with it's thin pommel."
