Ricasso

From SwordWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The ricasso is an unsharpened section of the blade, immediately in front of the guard. Many swords do not have this feature. The ricasso may serve different functions on different swords, such as allowing for the index-finger to hook around the guard for better control, or to have a region of the blade to grip with one hand on larger swords to shorten the functional range.
