Wheeler Typology
From SwordWiki
Dr. R.E.M Wheeler's Typology for Viking swords (focusing primarily on hilt design/construction). This system was devised by Dr. Wheeler in 1927, and is a condensed and streamlined version of the Petersen Typology, from a 26 member typology of the Viking sword, to his own 9 member group. This was also a foundation which Ewart Oakeshott built off of in his own typology of the Medieval Sword, as he begins with the roman numeral X, signifying that Wheeler's types I-IX came before.
